Welcome to Controversial Coffee, a vibrant haven nestled in Seaside, Oregon, where the world of caffeine intertwines with creativity, community, and a splash of controversy—or at least the playful kind. Located at 111 Broadway St #7, this eclectic coffee shop is more than just a stop for your daily brew; it’s an experience, a celebration of flavors, and a sanctuary for those seeking a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
Stepping into Controversial Coffee, one can’t help but feel the infectious vibe, characterized by quirky decor that ranges from pop culture icons to unique artwork adorning the walls. The first thing you’ll probably notice are the intriguingly named drinks that defy the conventional coffee menu. Have you ever tried a Sour Gummy Redbull with Lemonade or a Raspberry Cheesecake Latte Topped With Blood Drizzle? Here, your drink order can be an adventure. Not to be missed is the Dark Chocolate Mocha with Infused Mexican Spice Espresso, which successfully marries rich cocoa flavors with a delightful kick, perfect for those who crave an aromatic journey beyond traditional coffee.
What truly sets this establishment apart, however, is its community-centric approach. Customers rave about the inviting atmosphere that encourages mingling and gameplay alongside sipping your favorite brew. As Adriana Guerrero noted, “there are so many games to play while you sip your drinks,” and it becomes a space for relaxation and connection. The addition of a clothing closet and mutual aid board means every cup sold contributes to a cause greater than just coffee.
Equally enticing is the diverse food menu; from sandwiches featuring artichokes to creative pastries, there’s something to satisfy every palate. Diners have expressed delight at the array of options and the chance to indulge in locally inspired delicacies, making each breakfast or brunch a memorable one. As highlighted by Denycia Haley, the Save the Dolls chai tea latte with lavender-infused espresso proved to be a lovely surprise, showcasing the shop's commitment to crafting unique flavor profiles that cater to all tastes.
In addition, the warm, friendly staff members make for a hospitable experience that leaves visitors feeling valued and appreciated. Whether you're there for a casual meet-up or seeking a comfortable spot to work, the ambiance effortlessly invites you to linger a little longer.
Overall, Controversial Coffee isn’t just a coffee shop; it’s a community hub, a creative outlet, and a place where flavors collide in unexpectedly delightful ways. If you find yourself in the picturesque beachfront town of Seaside, this gem should undoubtedly be on your must-visit list—if not for the coffee, then for the experience that encourages connection, creativity, and yes, just a hint of controversy.

I brought a friend in to Controversial Coffee and after listening to them rave about the coffee and breakfast, I realized I haven't reviewed this spot! I love going in to order a "surprise me" drink, because they are always so delicious. The sandwich options are awesome and I love that my favorite, artichokes, are an option. There are so many games to play while you sip your drinks and so many amazing things to check out, read and admire on the walls. Jesus to Elton John to Fabio (the employee of the month) all are there enjoying the ambiance along with you. Don't miss out on the amazing food, drink and experience that Controversial Coffee has to offer. Oh! And they've got a clothing closet and mutual aid board. Very community centered, very kind, very thoughtful.

Came to seaside to celebrate my friends birthday on the beach and needed a little pick me up. I adored all of the "controversial" memes, stickers, etc. I put "controversial" in quotations because honestly nothing about this place should be controversial. Queer people have always existed and will continue to exist. That being said, the coffee was fantastic! Loved the pride menu. I ordered the Save the Dolls which was a chai tea latte with lavender infused espresso and it was SO lovely. My friend got the Soy Boy which was a marshmallow hazelnut latte made with soy milk soft top. I normally don't like coffee that is made with alternative milk so I was shocked when I loved it. I enjoyed seeing the free store. I'm a part of a couple mutual aid groups in Portland so my heart is always warmed to see a commitment to community, mutual aid, support, and solidarity. Especially into businesses, which are typically solely for profit ventures. Keep doing what y'all are doing!

It was a lovely shop and the staff were very helpful and nice. The mocha that I got with hazelnut added was better than I imagined. I finished it before we left the shop! I loved reading all the posters and the little area that is completely free to the community is a lovely addition. I took a few photos in the upside down area as well and I also played a little on the free Mortal Kombat game. Overall it was laid back atmosphere and a fun experience. I definitely wouldn't skip going here if you're in Seaside.

I am so glad my friend and I checked this place out!! It's difficult for both of us to find queer friendly spaces where we live and so its always a breath of fresh air finding these gems :3 the cookies taste amazing, and the chocolate brioche we got to share was definitely just as good, not to mention their drink menu for ani-may! The kakashi-sensei with ice is to die for oh my gosh, if I could have bought a gallon of it i might have. Really hoping that I can come back soon!

Incredibly cool with a super friendly staff. I got a simple rose flavored latte and it's definitely my favorite rose flavoring compared to other coffee shops. Honestly, just go even for the art fixtures! They're super cool.

Controversial Coffee Shops in Seaside is a hidden gem! The white espresso is fantastic, and the customer service is outstanding. Cozy vibe and unique atmosphere – a must-visit for coffee lovers seeking something special.

They have different flavored infused espresso... vs syrup so not sweet. Cardamom coffee was super yummy. Also, super friendly staff, cried friendly, dog friendly. Lots of variety on create your own breakfast sandwich sandwiches. What a great business to support.!

I’m in Seaside for the weekend and almost went to a fast food place for breakfast. I’m SO glad I didn’t. I love everything about this place. The employees have vibrant personalities, one singing along wonderfully with the music while they work. The coffee was incredible, I got a simple Parmesan bagel sandwich with egg and ketchup and it was delicious. They seem like they’re doing so much for their community and enjoying themselves while doing it. Thank you Controversial Coffee
